Greek Theatre
Creator: Marcus R. Burrowes (with the sketches from George Gough Booth)
Date: 1915-1916
Medium: stone
Notes: The Booth family built this structure as a response to their interest in the Little Theatre Movement. It is meant to mimic the style and proportions of the classical theaters of Ancient Greece. With five tiers of stone seating, the Greek Theatre can hold nearly 400 people.
'The Cranbrook Masque', written by Sidney Coe Howard and produced by the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, was the first play to be staged at the Greek Theatre.
