Arrival Feature

Creator: Juhani Pallasmaa with Dan Hoffman and Ted Galante
Date: 1994-1995
Medium: cast bronze wall and granite columns
Notes: Located at the end of the Woodward Avenue entrance road, just between the Art Academy and the Institute of Science, the Arrival Feature welcomes visitors to the center of the Cranbrook campus. The low, cast bronze wall is stamped with the constellations of both the southern and northern hemispheres. The granite columns feature latitudinal and longitudinal bearings indicating the original source of the granite. These sites are also home to the glacial-born rocks that dot the Cranbrook campus. The stars and stones displayed in the Arrival Feature are meant to symbolize both science and art.
